MEDIUMSHIP
MEDIUMSHIP: A medium is a person who communicates with the Spirit World. This is known as Mediumship. A medium acts as a Channel for for Spirit Communication. Their primary objective is to provide proof of the survival of the Human Soul.
MODERN MEDIUMSHIP: Many mediums come from the Spiritualist Movement which started in 1848 when the Spirit World made contact with the Fox sisters in Hydesville, New York. Modern Mediumship is said to have started from this time when Margaret Fox gave the first demonstration of Mediumship in the Corinthian Hall, Rochester, New York. THE WITCHCRAFT ACT: Mediumship was illegal for many years and many of the earlier Spiritualists had to practise in secret. Mediums could be tried under the Witchcraft Act 1735 and the Vagrancy Act 1824. Pioneer Mediums such as Estelle Roberts and Emma Hardinge-Britten were championed by esteemed men and women despite this being considered scandalous. These included Robert Owen, socialist reformer and founder of the Co-operative Society, the scientists Sir William Crooke and Sir Oliver Lodge as well as the famous author Sir Arthur Conan Doyle.

It wasn't until 1951 that Mediumship became legal, when the Fraudulent Mediums Act came into law.
DIFFERENT TYPES OF MEDIUMSHIP
MENTAL MEDIUMSHIP: Where Spirit is perceived through the mind of the Medium, using their senses, which include Clairvoyance (Clear Seeing), Clairaudience, (Clear Hearing), Clairsentience, (Clear Sensing), Claircognizance, (Clear Knowing), Clairgustance, (Clear Sense of smell or taste).
Messages are generally delivered verbally, but could also be given through Writing or Psychic Art.
TRANCE MEDIUMSHIP: Where the Medium is overshadowed by Spirit, putting their self aside. The Medium allows Spirit to blend their energies with theirs, and Speak through them. The types of Trance Mediumship include:
-
Inspired Speaking, where Philosophy or Wisdom is channeled.
-
Trance Mediumship, where evidential messages are given directly from Spirit.
-
Trance Healing, where Healing Guides blend their energies with those of the Medium to channel Healing Energy.
Transfiguration can take place during Trance Mediumship, where the Medium's features are transformed as Spirit is being channeled.
PHYSICAL MEDIUMSHIP: Here the Medium and Spirit work together to produce Physical Phenomena. The prime example is where ectoplasm is produced and the Spirit manifests. Other examples of Physical mediumship include: table tipping, noise making and levitation.
HEALING MEDIUMSHIP: Where the Healing Medium acts as a channel for Spiritual Healing Energy. (For more on Healing)
